Our Lady of Hope, Candolim, North Goa, Goa, India

Commemorated on December 19
Our Lady of Hope, Candolim, North Goa, Goa, India
Our Lady of Good Hope is the majestic Mannerist Neo-Roman church of Candolim situated at the foot of the hills of Candolim and facing the Nerul river. After Verem, the Franciscans are believed to have built this beautiful church. Although it was repaired in 1661, the Franciscans were not satisfied with the result. The Provincial, Antonio de Assumpcaô then ordered the old church to be demolished and Fr. Jeronymo de Natividade, revised the original plans and reduced the cost.
The feast of the patroness was celebrated in ancient times on the 16th of December, later the date of the feast was shifted to the 27th of December but from 1997 onwards the feast is celebrated on the 19th of December. The main altar of the church is dedicated to Our Lady of Hope.
