Our Lady of Médoux
Commemorated on August 2
Médoux is home to a chapel and shrine located on the parish of Asté in the department of Hautes-Pyrénées , drive Campan and site Médous Caves . It is an ancient place of pilgrimage to the major Virgin Mary , instead of two Marian apparitions to the little shepherdess Liloye in 1588 during the outbreak of plague under a rock from which came a fountain with a large chestnut. The country was also devastated by hail and flooding.
History
From 1552 to great pilgrimages were organized, and August 2, an annual procession. Liloye born in 1564 , became the mother of a small Annette and retired in Bernardine after his two appearances.
In 1616 , the Capuchins were in charge of the chapel by the Viscountess of Aste, Suzanne de Gramont. In 1630 , on 1 April the Bishop of Tarbes consecrated the restored chapel. A large statue in Carrara marble , 1.70m high and gift of Gramont family, replaced the small miraculous wooden statuette, Sanctuary 2 . The Capuchin monastery since 1616 was founded by the aunt of Henri de Gramont 3 , Suzanne de Gramont, Marquise de Montpezat , before the Revolution. Lombez Ambrose lived fifteen years.
The last two Capuchin Médoux to leave the convent in 1791 during the Revolution which destroyed all but the chestnut and the large statue of the Virgin of Our Lady of Médoux granted by the Minister of the Interior at Roland Bagnères-de-Bigorre as well as a fork and ornaments offered by Madame de Maintenon to the Duchess de Gramont. In 1948 we discover Caves Monastery in the Park. Today the shrine is that of Notre- Dame d'Aste and transferred the marble statue in the church of Asté.
Our Lady of Médoux , three kilometers south of Bagnères-de-Bigorre , opposite the hamlet of Asté, had
its vogue two legends:
One recalls, in part, the legend of Our Lady of Bourisp: beef is not there, but the statue, returning itself into the sanctuary where she was abducted, found it. Indeed, people in Bagnères-de-Bigorre took it in 1562 and tied him on a cart to take him in their city, but arrived at the small bridge Martinet, she broke his bonds and split air to return to his church.
The second is more interesting and new. In 1588, the Virgin appeared to a poor shepherdess named Liloye praying before her image and order ordered him to warn the clergy and people of Bagnères they had to do penance for their sins. Liloye vainly acquitted of this message and returned, mocked, near the Virgin renewed her injunctions, stating that, if we do not listen, it would decimate by a terrible plague the city.
Liloye obeyed again, but his remonstrances failed: then, the plague raged and killed all those people who could not escape; Bagnères remained deserted for a year; then, gradually, the culprits who had escaped punishment, away from the contaminated site, returned. One of these emigrants, Simone Souville, Liloye met in the street and, mocking, said: this epidemic providential that you had announced could only reach the poor who did not have the means to clear out; we, we could easily escape. The lesson is incomplete and we look less awkward reprimands to convert us.
- Go, immediately made the Virgin Liloye, will prevent this bad sheep that the plague will break out on the rich, this time, and it will be the first victim. And the prediction was fulfilled to the letter, and Simone died.
The people, terrified, repented and many processions marched for years before the altar dedicated to Our Lady. As for Liloye, she entered as a nun in a convent Balbonne near Montserrat, Spain, as all monasteries in the country had been burned by the Huguenots.
This sanctuary Médoux, served as the Capuchins, among which lived Fr Ambrose Lombez who passed away in the year 1778 in the odor of sanctity, was one of the famous pilgrimages Pyrenees . Healings, miracles of all kinds, it attracted crowds, then came the revolution which scattered them; the chapel was closed and transferred the statue in the church of the town. "
